Stephen Ministry
The Stephen Ministry is a program of our congregation that equips lay persons to provide distinctive Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community. The ministry is extremely confidential. Our Stephen Ministers have received about fifty hours of training in listening and caring skills and continue to refine these skills and get support for their ministry by meeting twice a month for supervision and continuing education.
There are times when each of us needs the care of another person, a Christian friend, a Stephen Minister! These needs include but are not limited to ...
* the hospitalized
* the terminally ill and their families
* people who move into or out of our community
* those grieving a death or serious loss
* the homebound and institutionalized
* prisoners, ex-offenders and their families
* those with a job crisis
* the aging and ederly
* those with disabilities
* those needing the support of a Christian friend
* those facing life transitions
* those separated or divorced
* households experiencing birth or adoption
* those in spiritual crisis

Prayer Chain
One of the many ways we can assist one another in life is through prayer. Each week in worship we share prayer concerns and joys and reiterate them through our bi-weekly newsletter. Our expectation is that our parishioners will lift up these folks on the prayer list in their daily prayers.
In addition to this, our church has a Prayer Chain that mobilizes a great number of folk for immediate prayer. The Prayer Chain starts in the church office and spreads from there. It is an excellent way to have your concern or your joy bathed in prayer in short order.
Walk to Emmaus
The Walk to Emmaus, sponsored by The Upper Room, is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. FUMC hosts the Channel Islands Walk to Emmaus twice a year (February and August). The three-day Emmaus experience and follow-up groups strengthen and renew Christian people as disciples of Jesus Christ and as active members of the body of Christ in mission to the world.
