Family Ministries
United Methodist Women
Our United Methodist Women organization is a community of women whose purpose is to know God, and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. Here at First Church we have three fellowship groups which meet monthly, two in the daytime and one in the evening. The groups do various service projects within our church and for Project Understanding. Our UMW supports mission through individual pledges and through earning money with rummage sales which are held three times a year. Our pledge to missions through the conference is $6000 which we have been successful in fulfilling every year. We also financially support several local outreach programs in our community. If you are interested in joining one of our fellowship groups please contact the church secretary.
The United Methodist Men
The United Methodist Men meet weekly for early morning Bible study, and they assist the United Methodist Women with rummage sales held three times a year. The men support missions, assist with special work days around our facility, and are always “on call.”
Age Appropriate United Methodist Groups
United Methodist Youth Fellowship: UMYF combines 6th-12th graders in an informal setting, focusing on the 3 Fs: Fellowhip, Food and Fun. We gather together on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The group is taking a break for the summer and will resume meeting sometime in September. Occasionally there are other events we attend and activities that are on a different time schedule.
Young Parents' Fellowship: Meet the parents of young children at First Church who participate in spontaneous or planned outings together. If you are interested in joining us, please let Pastor Jimmy know at the office.
Boomer Group: When this fellowship group was started the name “Young Pillars” seemed in jest yet as time has passed it seems these folk have lived into their leadership potential. This group is for the “boomers” among us and gathers monthly for fellowship and fun
Soully Sociable: Don’t quite think of yourself as a “boomer” yet you know you’re “really not that old!” then Soully Social is for you. The group is full of the movers and shakers of the church and meets as they are able to get together, twice or four times a year for special events.
Hilltoppers: Join the folks 50 years and up who get together several times a year for social gatherings.
Sandwich & Books Luncheon
The fourth Monday of each month, except for June-August, at noon in the Wesley Center, all women are invited to bring their own sandwich with dessert and beverage being provided. Following the meal one of the women gives a book report on a book she has read.
The Quilters
A group of women gather each Monday morning at 9 a.m. in the church's Wesley Center to quilt already pieced together quilt tops into lovely quilts.
