Youth Group

United Methodist Youth Fellowship a.k.a. U.M.Y.F. is an opportunity for youth, middle and high school aged, to lay a Christian foundation of worship, study, fellowship and service to others. The program centers around growing in faith, help in daily life, leadership development and healthy relationships.  “Our primary task in U.M.Y.F. is to love youth where they are, to encourage them into developing their relationship with God, to provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth, and to challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve their communities.” (From The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church – 1996)

Sunday mornings we "focus on the foundation" with Bible studies starting at 9:15 a.m.  The Joyful Noise Handbell Choir goes from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Wesley Center. Our youth group (UMYF) combines 6th - 12th graders in an informal setting, focusing on the 3 Fs: Fellowship, food and Fun. We gather on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Occasionally there are other events we attend and activities that are on a different time schedule. During July and August the UMYF takes a break. Meetings resume in September.

We offer the youth confirmation classes in January concluding on Pentecost in May or June. The classes are for thirteen weeks where each youth is paired with a mentor and provided materials and field trips to enhance their faith journey. The confirmation ceremony is celebrated with the congregation in worship.

The youth are encouraged to participate in many facets of Christian discipleship. In the spring Youth Sunday brings to worship the views and praise that our teens share with the rest of the congregation. We have retreats throughout the year culminating in the summer with a weeklong mission trip.  To fund our trip we participate in fundraisers like our famous Palm Sunday brunch and Ole Time Family Movie Nite.
